To fabricate dental appliances a person must be registered with the College of Dental Technicians of British Columbia. Only registrants of the College are licensed and legally entitled to practice dental technology in BC.
The College has four (4) registration classes:
- Dental Technician
- Non-practicing Dental Technician *
- Dental Technician Assistant
- Dental Technician Student
* Please note: a Non-practicing Dental Technician is not allowed to provide any of the services of a dental technician in British Columbia, including supervising other registrants. A registrant must be previously registered as a Dental Technician to transfer to a non-practicing class.
To perform the services offered in dental technology legally, an individual must be licensed by the College of Dental Technicians of British Columbia. Registration is granted if the applicant satisfies the conditions and/or requirements of the respective registration class for which he/she has applied for. All classes of registration must be renewed annually, no later than March 31.
Renewal notices are sent to all registrants via email in late January. If a registrant has not provided the College with a valid email address, a hard copy will be sent out by Canada Post. The renewal period starts on February 1 through to the last day of the month. Fees paid in March are subject to a late fee.
Please note that registrants are responsible to ensure that contact information provided to the College is up-to-date and correct.
Renewals can be done through the Registrant Login portal.
